Governor Greg Abbott announced that the federal government has updated the Presidential Disaster Declaration to include additional counties in Texas affected by recent flooding. The counties now eligible for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Individual Assistance program are Burnet, Kerr, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson. Additionally, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Menard, and San Saba counties have been approved for FEMA’s Public Assistance program.
"President Donald Trump approved my request to add more counties to his disaster declaration, which will provide critical assistance to Texans and communities impacted by the devastating flooding," said Governor Abbott. "There has been extraordinary collaboration with the state and the federal government to make sure that we address Texans' needs as quickly as possible through disaster assistance programs. The State of Texas will continue to work with our federal and local partners to provide impacted Texans with the support they need to heal and recover.”
Texans in the eligible counties can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Additional counties may be added as further damage assessments are completed.
FEMA's Public Assistance program has been approved for emergency work and repair or replacement of damaged facilities in Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Menard, and San Saba. A request from Texas for additional FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program resources statewide is still pending.
Officials are reviewing disaster damage information reported by Texans through TDEM's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey. Impacted residents are encouraged to submit details about damage when it is safe.
Governor Abbott continues efforts to provide necessary resources for local officials responding to flooding. These actions include launching a new emotional support line for those affected by flooding, requesting additional counties be included in President Trump's Major Disaster Declaration, directing ongoing flood response efforts, announcing disaster unemployment assistance related to flood impacts, surveying flood-damaged areas, updating on state response efforts in impacted communities including Kerr County and surrounding areas.
The readiness level of the State Operations Center has been increased as West and Central Texas prepare for heavy rainfall and flash flooding threats. State emergency response resources have been deployed ahead of these threats.
