U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued a statement regarding recent U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
"The United States government has long maintained that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon," McCaul stated, emphasizing President Trump's actions as "decisive" and protective of American lives.
McCaul noted that President Trump had offered diplomatic avenues to Iran to avoid further devastation but claimed Iran chose to escalate its nuclear activities by announcing a new enrichment site recently.
He warned of the potential threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iran, stating it would be an existential threat not only to Israel but also to the United States. He praised the U.S. military's capability in neutralizing such threats without deploying ground troops in Iran.
"This limited, targeted operation sent a powerful message of deterrence," McCaul said, expressing hope for increased peace in the region and warning adversaries against harming the United States.
He concluded his statement with blessings for the armed forces involved in executing these strikes and for the nation.
