Governor Greg Abbott has signed into law over 300 bills from the 89th Regular Legislative Session, totaling more than 600 new laws this session. In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized Texas's role in fostering the American dream and highlighted the importance of these legislative actions in ensuring safety and protecting individual freedoms. He remarked, "Texas is where the American dream lives," adding that these measures would maintain Texas as an ideal place to live and work.
The governor is currently reviewing over 1,200 bills sent by the Texas Legislature, with the sign/veto period extending until June 22.
Among the newly signed legislation are House Bill 18, which aims to improve rural healthcare access; House Bill 27, mandating financial literacy courses for high school students; and Senate Bill 10, requiring classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. Other significant bills include Senate Bill 31 concerning emergency medical responses during abortions and Senate Bill 34 focusing on wildfire management.
Governor Abbott also approved Senate Bill 835 or Trey’s Law, nullifying confidentiality agreements that prevent disclosure of sexual abuse. Another notable measure is Senate Bill 1300, which enhances penalties for organized retail theft.
