Governor Greg Abbott has announced the deployment of Texas emergency management resources to New Mexico. This move comes in response to a request from New Mexico’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, following the Rio Grande Fire and the Trout Fire affecting the state.

"Texas stands ready to answer the call for help when disaster strikes — whether it's here in Texas or across the country," stated Governor Abbott. "Today, I deployed emergency management personnel needed to help safeguard New Mexico residents and their property. Stepping up to help those in need is part of the spirit of Texas, and interstate partnerships such as these help ensure our country is prepared to respond to any crisis that may arise."

Under Governor Abbott's direction, personnel from the State of Texas Incident Management Team have been sent by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. They will provide support under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) at New Mexico’s Emergency Operations Center. Their roles will include response operations, planning, logistics, and geographic information systems.

The EMAC is a mutual aid system allowing states to share resources during disasters or emergencies. It facilitates resource sharing across all disciplines while ensuring personnel protection and cost reimbursement for mission-related expenses. More details can be found at emacweb.org.
