Abbott appoints five members to Texas Historical Commission

Governor Greg Abbott has announced appointments to the Texas Historical Commission, naming Mike Hagee, Kay Hindes, and Dick Tips as new members while reappointing John W. Crain and Gilbert E. "Pete" Peterson, III. Their terms will expire on February 1, 2031. The Commission is responsible for guiding and coordinating efforts related to preserving the state's archaeological and historical heritage.

Mike Hagee from Fredericksburg brings a wealth of experience from his service as a Commandant in the U.S. Marine Corps and his role as CEO of the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. He has been involved with organizations such as Securing America’s Future Energy and the U.S Global Leadership Coalition.

Kay Hindes, an archaeologist from Pleasanton, previously served as San Antonio's city archaeologist. She is affiliated with several archaeological societies in Texas and holds a degree in Anthropology from UT San Antonio.

San Antonio's Dick Tips serves as chairman and CEO of R.D. Tips, Inc., with notable contributions to restoring landmarks like the Fairmount Hotel and historic sites such as Espada Dam.

John W. Crain of Dallas continues his tenure on the Commission after serving as vice-chairman. He is active in various historical associations including the Summerlee Foundation and The Bryan Museum.

Gilbert E. "Pete" Peterson, III from Alpine has over five decades of professional experience across multiple fields including education and ranching. His volunteer work spans several organizations focused on heritage preservation in West Texas.

These appointments reflect a commitment to preserving Texas' rich history through leadership roles filled by individuals with diverse backgrounds in military service, archaeology, business leadership, historical association management, and regional heritage advocacy.
