Governor Greg Abbott has announced a Skills Development Fund grant amounting to $262,944 awarded to Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley by the Texas Workforce Commission. This grant is set to facilitate customized training for 317 employees of Lone Star National Bank, focusing on high-demand roles within the commercial banking sector.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in workforce development as Texas's economy continues to expand. "As our state’s economy continues to grow, it is critical that we invest in our workforce to ensure key industries have the talent they need to thrive," he stated. He expressed gratitude towards the Texas Workforce Commission for collaborating with Lone Star National Bank, aiming to enhance competitiveness in high-demand industries within the Rio Grande Valley.
TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting, “The Skills Development Fund grant is a powerful tool to aid in the success of the Texas workforce.” He underscored that providing training resources for high-demand commercial banking roles supports both businesses and workers across Texas.
Earlier today, TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III presented this award during a ceremony at Lone Star National Bank’s corporate office in McAllen. The event was attended by representatives from Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley, Lone Star National Bank, and other local partners.
The Skills Development Fund is Texas's workforce training program designed to help businesses enhance their new or existing workforce skills. In collaboration with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC offers customized training solutions tailored for businesses across various sizes.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has partnered with over 4,900 employers statewide and facilitated training opportunities that have upgraded or created more than 435,000 jobs throughout Texas.
