Today, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz of Texas's 15th District acknowledged the McAllen High School Mariachi Oro on the House floor for their achievements in Mariachi music. She praised their hard work and dedication to the art form.
After her speech, the group was invited to perform at De La Cruz's annual Texas Tea event. The McAllen High Mariachi Oro recently won their eighth Texas Association of Mariachi Educators State Championship and their tenth consecutive UIL State Mariachi Festival Division 1 Sweepstakes.
De La Cruz highlighted that many members were new to the band at the beginning of the year, making them underdogs in competitions. However, through commitment and daily practice, they achieved significant titles. Their performances are noted for capturing the essence of Tejano music and impressing audiences across the nation.
De La Cruz expressed her honor in having the students and directors present to share their culture and music from the Rio Grande Valley. She concluded with congratulations to Mariachi Oro for their community pride, talent, and dedication.
