Congressman Wesley Hunt announced the inclusion of $161 million in the President's FY2026 budget to complete Project 11 of the Houston Ship Channel. This project aims to enhance and widen the channel, allowing two larger vessels to pass simultaneously through certain segments, thereby improving safety and transit efficiency at one of the United States' key ports.
In a statement, Congressman Hunt emphasized his commitment to securing full funding for Project 11 since taking office nearly three years ago. He stated, "Since my swearing-in nearly three years ago, one of my biggest priorities has been to ensure that Project 11 in the Houston Ship Channel is fully funded and its construction completed."
The project has received significant support from various stakeholders. A spokesperson expressed gratitude for the funding: “This is a momentous achievement,” adding appreciation for Congressman Hunt's advocacy and leadership in securing federal dollars necessary for completing the expansion. The spokesperson highlighted that this development would benefit not only Houstonians but also have national economic implications.
Congressman Hunt also thanked President Trump for acknowledging the project's importance and supporting America's goal of becoming a net energy exporter. He noted, "I would also like to express my sincerest gratitude to President Trump for recognizing the importance of this project and his goal of ensuring America is once again a net exporter of energy."
