Abbott appoints McCall to Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission; names Foster chair

Governor Greg Abbott has made new appointments to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. John A. McCall Jr., O.D., has been appointed to the commission for a term that will last until February 1, 2031. In addition, Paul Foster has been named as the chair of the commission. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission is responsible for managing and conserving Texas's natural and cultural resources while providing opportunities for hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

John A. McCall Jr., from Crockett, is a senior vice president and founder of Vision Source. He owns the Crockett Eye Clinic, co-founded Logansport Surgical Center, and founded Stealth Vision Optics and Rifles. Previously, he served as acting chairman on the Board of Regents for the University of Houston System after a six-year term and was recognized as Outstanding Alumni of the Year. His past roles include city councilman and mayor of Crockett. Currently, he is president of the American Academy of Optometric Medicine and Surgery and has held leadership positions in both the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association.

Paul Foster from El Paso is CEO and director of Franklin Mountain Investments, LLC (FMI), with affiliates such as Franklin Mountain Capital and Franklin Mountain Energy among others. He has been part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission since 2021. His previous roles include director positions with petroleum associations, chairman roles at The University of Texas Investment Management Company, UT System Board of Regents, involvement with various educational boards, economic development corporations, financial institutions like WestStar Bank in El Paso, Baylor College of Medicine board member status, Borderplex Alliance Executive Committee membership, World Presidents Organization membership.
