Governor Greg Abbott has announced a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop, organized by the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture. The event will take place on June 10, both virtually and in-person.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of music to Texas, stating, "Music is key to the Texas brand and to our local economies." He acknowledged the TMO's role in developing partnerships and creating jobs across the state. According to Abbott, "With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide."
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will attend the workshop to discuss the Music Friendly Texas Community designation. She will explain its benefits and answer questions from participants.
The program was introduced by TMO in 2016 as a pioneering initiative in the nation. It provides communities with a network for fostering music industry development. The upcoming Hallettsville workshop marks an initial step toward certification. Once certified, Hallettsville will join over 80 other cities in Texas that have earned this designation.
The workshop invites musicians, venues, and members of the public to participate either online or at the venue.
