Governor Greg Abbott has expressed his approval of the Texas Legislature's decision to pass House Bill 14, a move set to transform the state's nuclear industry. The bill is anticipated to lead what Governor Abbott describes as a "nuclear power renaissance" in the United States.
In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized Texas' role in the energy sector: “Texas is the energy capital of the world, and this legislation will position Texas at the forefront of America's nuclear renaissance.” He highlighted that the establishment of the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office and an investment of $350 million—the largest national commitment—will drive next-generation nuclear development. This initiative aims to bolster Texas’ nuclear manufacturing capacity, re-establish a domestic fuel cycle supply chain, and train future nuclear professionals.
Governor Abbott also noted that last year he had unveiled plans for Texas to develop an advanced nuclear power industry. This effort is intended to improve electric reliability and energy security while promoting economic growth and providing new opportunities for Texas' expanding workforce.
The Governor concluded by expressing his eagerness to enact this legislation into law soon.
