Governor Greg Abbott has commended the Texas Legislature for passing House Bill 2, which marks a significant increase in public education funding in the state. The bill adds $8.5 billion to support various educational needs, including raising teacher and staff salaries, enhancing school safety, and expanding career training programs.
"This critical school finance legislation is the largest public education funding increase in Texas history," Governor Abbott stated. He emphasized that the bill positions Texas as a leading state for education by addressing key areas such as teacher pay and school infrastructure.
The Governor expressed gratitude to several key figures involved in advancing the legislation: Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, Chairman Brandon Creighton, and Chairman Brad Buckley. Abbott assured that he would promptly sign the bill into law.
Earlier this year, during his State of the State Address, Governor Abbott identified teacher pay raises and career training as emergency priorities for this legislative session.
