Governor Greg Abbott has declared May 26-31, 2025, as Hurricane Preparedness Week in Texas. This initiative aims to increase awareness about the dangers of hurricanes and encourage Texans to take necessary precautions as the hurricane season approaches.
“The State of Texas knows all too well the devastating power of hurricanes,” stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that "from storm surges to high winds, hurricanes pose a threat to life and property." Abbott urged families, businesses, and communities to take proactive measures and stock up on emergency supplies. "By taking the time now to prepare for any devastating and powerful storms that may reach our shores, we can help foster a safer and more secure future for our state," he added.
In line with these efforts, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has updated emergency management planning documents to align with community needs during a hurricane. TDEM also conducted its annual hurricane exercise involving partners from various government levels and the private sector.
The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season is scheduled from June 1 through November 30. Texans are encouraged to visit the Texas Hurricane Center for guidance on steps before, during, and after a hurricane.
