Governor Greg Abbott has announced a Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) grant of $3,080,000 to Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings, Inc. (TEL U.S.) for their technical training and research and development center in Austin. This facility is anticipated to generate over $30 million in capital investment.

“Texas is where the technologies of tomorrow are developed today,” stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that Tokyo Electron's investment strengthens Texas's leadership in the semiconductor industry and supports job training for Texans, enhancing employment opportunities.

Tokyo Electron U.S., a subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Limited, operates in the semiconductor production equipment sector. The TEL Technical Training and R&D Center aims to train approximately 2,200 individuals annually using advanced methods like virtual reality and augmented reality. The center will also focus on developing next-generation software and processes for the semiconductor industry.

Rick Turner, Executive VP, CFO & GM of Tokyo Electron U.S., expressed gratitude for the funding: “TEL U.S. is honored to receive this funding from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund to enhance our research and development efforts in the state we’ve called home for over 30 years.” He highlighted the grant as a testament to Texas's commitment to domestic semiconductor technology production.

Senator Judith Zaffirini remarked on the importance of such investments: “Investments in semiconductor innovation are investments in Texas’ future.” She noted that this grant reflects a shared commitment to keeping Texas at the forefront of technological growth and economic progress.

Governor Abbott signed the Texas CHIPS Act into law in 2023, establishing TSIF as an incentive program aimed at maintaining Texas's leadership in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing. These programs are managed by the Texas CHIPS Office within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
