Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Flatonia is now a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition comes after the city completed a multi-step training and certification process facilitated by the Texas Film Commission.
"Congratulations to Flatonia on earning the Film Friendly Texas designation and joining 200 other Texas communities that have received this recognition," said Governor Abbott. He highlighted that through this certification, communities are equipped to connect local businesses with production needs, fostering job creation and local spending. Abbott expressed gratitude towards the Texas Film Commission for aiding communities like Flatonia in marketing their unique appeal and supporting local job creation through media production.
Flatonia Interim City Manager Dennis Geesaman expressed pride in receiving the designation, stating, "Flatonia's classic small-town Texas charm is evident to those who visit, and we love to showcase it to anyone interested in exploring all we have to offer." He emphasized the city's historical charm, noting its Czech and German heritage reflected in its architecture and cultural offerings.
With this certification, Flatonia joins over 200 other communities across Texas that receive ongoing support from the Texas Film Commission. The commission provides guidance on industry standards and best practices for accommodating filming activities.
The Texas Film Commission has been promoting film-related economic growth in the state for more than 50 years.
