Governor Greg Abbott, in collaboration with the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), has announced a distribution of over $46.3 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants to 175 organizations across Texas. The grants aim to serve more than 40,000 veterans and their families by supporting nonprofit organizations and local government agencies that provide direct services.

Governor Abbott emphasized the state's commitment to its veterans: “Texas is forever indebted to the brave men and women who answered the call to serve in our nation's military.” He noted that Texas, home to over 1.5 million veterans, is dedicated to offering comprehensive support services.

Laura Koerner, TVC Chairwoman and Navy veteran, highlighted the impact of these grants: “Veterans receive vital services and assistance from these nonprofits and local governments across the state.”

The FVA grants will fund various services including clinical counseling, employment support, financial assistance, home modification, homeless veteran support, peer support services, pro bono legal services, referral services, supportive services, transportation programs and services, and Veteran Treatment Courts.

Veterans in need can access resources through the Grant Services Directory at tvc.texas.gov/fund. The funding is primarily sourced from games by the Texas Lottery Commission designated for veteran support. Additional funds come from individual donations on drivers’ licenses and other licenses.

Since 2009 through the current grant cycle of 2025-2026, more than $359 million has been awarded through 1,600 FVA grants. The TVC continues to advocate for improving the quality of life for all Texas veterans.
