Rockport-Fulton has been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community, as announced by Governor Greg Abbott. This designation comes after the community completed the necessary certification process with the Texas Music Office (TMO). The program, initiated by TMO in 2016, aims to boost economic development and job creation within the music industry across Texas.

Governor Abbott expressed his congratulations, stating, “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state.” He emphasized that Music Friendly Texas Communities play a crucial role in enhancing local job creation and economic growth. According to Abbott, "the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide."

Senator Lois Kolkhorst also praised Rockport-Fulton's achievement: “This coastal region offers a variety of attractions and experiences for residents and tourists alike.” She noted that this recognition would further contribute to local economic growth and provide opportunities for musicians.

Shelly Stuart, President and CEO of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, remarked on the significance of this designation: “This designation recognizes the deep-rooted passion for music that lives in our people and places.” Stuart highlighted that it would help grow the local music scene and enhance cultural experiences.

Sandy Jumper from the Rockport Songwriter Association commented on the positive impact of this certification: “The designation will have a positive impact on the musicians, songwriters, and venues in our area.” Jumper added that it would bring entertainment from across Texas to their region.

Aransas County Judge Ray Garza acknowledged the importance of this achievement: “Music is more than entertainment. It is an economic driver, a connector of communities.” He emphasized that this certification opens new doors for partnerships within music and tourism industries.

The official certification ceremony will take place on May 9 at The Harbor Tent at Charlotte Plummer's. The event will be co-hosted by TMO along with local organizations such as the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Gini Mascorro from TMO will present the designation during this event.

Rockport-Fulton now joins 81 other communities as part of this initiative aimed at fostering musical talent throughout Texas. More information about this program can be found on TMO’s website.
