Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster in Falls County following a significant failure in Marlin's public water system. This failure resulted in water shortages and a boil water notice affecting the community.

"Texas continues to provide assistance to the City of Marlin as the community faces water outages and a boil water notice," stated Governor Abbott. A disaster declaration was issued to deliver further state aid, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management has been tasked with providing clean drinking water and deploying staff to assist affected residents.

The response includes the delivery of 20 pallets of bottled water for local distribution and the contracting of potable water tankers to ensure the supply of clean drinking water. Regional field staff have also been deployed to work with local authorities on addressing both response and recovery. Furthermore, the Texas A&M Public Works Response Team is on the ground assisting with diagnosing operational issues.

Technical assistance for the restoration of the water system is being provided by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Texas will continue to monitor and support Marlin as efforts to restore the water system progress.

"I thank state and local officials for their efforts to support fellow Texans during this time," Governor Abbott concluded.
