On April 30, 2025, Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) hosted a press conference alongside local officials and agriculture leaders to discuss water deliveries from Mexico to South Texas. The event occurred on President Trump's 100th day in office and included participation from Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez and Dale Murden among others.

De La Cruz expressed appreciation for the Trump Administration's actions to ensure Mexico fulfills its water delivery obligations. She noted the importance of such cooperation for South Texas' agriculture and acknowledged the support of President Trump, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"This announcement is a victory for our community, our farmers, and our families," she stated, emphasizing the significance of diplomatic measures to address the longstanding water challenges faced by the region.

In her prepared remarks, De La Cruz recounted efforts made prior to President Trump's tenure, including a letter sent with other Texas delegates to hold the Mexican government accountable. She detailed a $280 million relief fund announced last month, a result of her collaboration with Secretary Rollins, aimed directly at Texas farmers.

De La Cruz further announced an agreement with the Mexican government to deliver up to 420,000 acre-feet of water by October. While acknowledging this development as a major progression, she underscored the broader implications for agriculture and the potential impact on families nationwide.

"This fight affects every South Texas family because every one of us needs water," she remarked, highlighting the critical role of Texas in U.S. agriculture.
