Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management have urged residents to take part in the upcoming Emergency Supplies Sales Tax Holiday. The event, which runs from April 26 to April 28, allows Texans to buy certain emergency preparation supplies without paying sales tax.

Governor Abbott stated, “Having emergency supplies on-hand is one of the best ways Texans can keep themselves and their loved ones safe during emergency weather events.” He encouraged residents to use this opportunity to buy products such as flashlights, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.

The holiday was established following the signing of Senate Bill 904 by Governor Abbott in 2015. Texans can benefit from in-store and online tax-free purchases during this event.

With spring storms and the advent of hurricane season on June 1, the governor's office suggests residents use this time to prepare. Information about eligible tax-free items can be found on the Texas Comptroller’s website. Additionally, resources and tips for emergency preparedness are available at tdem.texas.gov/prepare and TexasReady.gov.

The goal of the event is to encourage Texans to build emergency supply kits and consider their disaster preparedness.
