Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management are inviting Texans to participate in the upcoming Emergency Supplies Sales Tax Holiday. This event runs from Saturday, April 26, through Monday, April 28.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of being prepared for emergency weather events. "Having emergency supplies on-hand is one of the best ways Texans can keep themselves and their loved ones safe during emergency weather events," he stated. Furthermore, he urged Texans to "take advantage of this tax-free holiday to purchase emergency supplies, such as flashlights, first aid kits, or fire extinguishers, in order to be prepared for any potential severe weather or disasters."
The tax holiday was introduced in 2015 with the signing of Senate Bill 904. It offers Texans the opportunity to buy designated emergency supplies without the additional cost of sales tax, either in-store or online.
Ahead of anticipated spring storms and the commencement of hurricane season on June 1, residents of Texas are urged to use this time to enhance their emergency readiness by assembling a supply kit. Additional information on eligible items can be found on the Texas Comptroller’s website. Further resources and preparation tips can be accessed at tdem.texas.gov/prepare and TexasReady.gov, where guidance on emergency planning and kit assembly is available.
