Governor Abbott reappoints three to Red River Authority board

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed three members to the Red River Authority of Texas Board of Directors, with terms extending to August 11, 2029. The Authority manages the control, conservation, and development of the watershed and waters of the Red River and its Texas tributaries.

Jerry Dan Davis from Wellington will continue his role on the board. Davis owns and operates a farm and ranch across the counties of Collingsworth, Childress, and Hall. He is involved with various boards including the Panhandle Peanut Growers Board, Farmers Co-Op Gin Board, and the Collingsworth County Agricultural Board. Davis has a background serving on boards such as the Wellington ISD School Board and the Collingsworth County Library Board. He holds a bachelor's degree in General Agriculture from West Texas A&M University.

Mike Sandefur, based in New Boston, also retains his position. Sandefur serves as CEO for Loblolly Land Company, Barkman Creek Land Company, and Barkman Bluff Farms. His experience extends to board roles at the Texarkana College Foundation and past positions with the Texarkana College Board of Trustees and the Sulphur River Basin River Authority Board. He has worked with the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army in Texarkana and led the Financial Advisory Committee of Bowie County. Sandefur's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Accounting, and a Master of Business and Public Management from Rice University.

Joe L. Ward of Telephone will continue his tenure as a board member as well. Ward runs a ranch with a Red Angus/Santa Gertrudis cow-calf operation at the Bar S Ranch. He contributes to his community as a founding board member of the Fannin County Multi-Purpose Complex, a volunteer with the Telephone Volunteer Fire Department, and as a director for the Bigbee Cemetery. He is affiliated with the Telephone Baptist Church. Previously, Ward held a gubernatorial appointment to the State Soil and Water Conservation Board and participated on the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce Board. Ward's military service includes time in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University.

The appointments made by Governor Abbott are pending confirmation from the Senate.
