Governor Greg Abbott has extended congratulations to the City of Cuero for earning the designation as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. The recognition comes in the inaugural year of the program by Travel Texas, underscoring the city's successful completion of a multi-step certification process.

“This certification demonstrates the commitment of the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture & Visitor’s Bureau to fostering tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors to their community as well as to Texas at large,” stated Governor Abbott. He noted that tourism is a crucial component of the state's economy, supporting one in 11 jobs and contributing over $193 billion in annual economic impact with 1.3 million jobs supported across Texas. Abbott encouraged all Texas communities to seek the designation to bolster local tourism and job growth.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell commended Cuero, emphasizing its "proud heritage and deep-rooted traditions." Cuero is known for its historic architecture, the Guadalupe Valley Paddling Trail, and events such as Turkeyfest. "This designation honors the city’s commitment to sharing its story and welcoming travelers with authenticity and heart,” said Fennell.

Senator Lois Kolkhorst also congratulated Cuero, highlighting its efforts to harness tourism as a driver of economic growth and cultural enrichment. She mentioned Cuero's attractions, including the Pharmacy and Medical Museum of Texas, Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, and festivals like Turkeyfest and Christmas in the Park. Kolkhorst praised Cuero for its designation as the Wildflower Capital of Texas, which enhances its appeal to nature enthusiasts.

Cuero Mayor Emil Garza expressed pride in the recognition, referring to Cuero as the “Turkey Capitol of the World” and lauded its offerings which include historical sites and various events throughout the year. "Cuero is ‘the way life ought to be,’ and we hope to see you soon,” Garza remarked.

Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture & Visitor's Center Executive Director Angie Cuellar echoed this sentiment, saying, “This certification reflects the dedication of our staff, residents, and businesses in making Cuero a welcoming place for visitors." Cuellar praised the collaborative efforts from local entities that have showcased Cuero's hospitality and charm.
