Governor Greg Abbott has renewed the border security disaster proclamation originally issued on May 31, 2021. The proclamation addresses the abundance of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border, which continues to represent an ongoing and imminent threat to numerous counties and state agencies in Texas.
The original proclamation was modified in subsequent announcements to update the list of affected counties and declare a state of disaster for those regions. "The certified conditions continue to exist and pose an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster as set forth in the prior proclamations," Abbott stated.
The renewal of the disaster declaration applies to several counties including Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, and Brooks, among others. It also affects all state agencies involved in this matter. Governor Abbott confirmed, "All orders, directions, suspensions, and authorizations provided in the Proclamation of May 31, 2021, as amended and renewed in subsequent proclamations, are in full force and effect."
In compliance with statutory requirements, copies of the updated proclamation will be filed with the relevant authorities. Governor Abbott signed the document, officially affixing the Seal of State at his office in Austin, Texas, on April 22, 2025.
