Governor Abbott highlighted Texas' prominent role in the energy sector, as the leading U.S. state in energy production and significant exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). They also addressed ongoing trade negotiations, particularly with Mexico, Texas' largest trading partner. Abbott emphasized Texas' status as the leading exporting state in the nation for 23 years, crucial to both state and national economic growth.

The conversation also covered developments in federal tax cut legislation. Secretary Bessent remarked on the Administration's collaboration with Congress to progress the tax measure towards President Donald Trump for approval.
