Governor Greg Abbott has congratulated Aransas Pass for achieving Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community status, as revealed by Travel Texas. The city managed to attain this distinction in the new program's first year, signifying a significant effort by the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center to utilize tourism for economic growth.

Governor Abbott highlighted the importance of tourism, stating, “Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas. Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." He expressed his hope that other communities would follow Aransas Pass's example in seeking this designation.

Tim Fennell, the Director of Travel Texas, praised Aransas Pass as a gateway to the natural attractions of the Gulf Coast. "Aransas Pass’ recognition as a Tourism Friendly Texas Community reflects its role as a gateway to the Gulf Coast’s natural beauty and outdoor recreation," he noted.

Representative Todd Hunter lauded this achievement, saying, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the City of Aransas Pass on being named a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community.” He emphasized the city's potential to draw tourists and boost local job creation through this recognition.

City Manager Mary Juarez expressed the significance of this designation for Aransas Pass. “Aransas Pass is honored to be recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas destination,” she said, highlighting the community's commitment to welcoming visitors.

County Commissioner Howard J. Gillespie added, “Aransas Pass is the heart of the Coastal Bend — a place where history, natural beauty, and vibrant culture come together to create a truly inviting destination.” He expressed excitement about continuing to share the community's offerings through the Tourism Friendly Texas program.

The designation allows local governments or non-profits involved in tourism promotion to strengthen tourism development efforts. This can educate leaders on tourism's value, prioritize strategies, and explore opportunities offered by Travel Texas and other state programs.

Travel Texas, within the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, aims to bolster local economic development by showcasing Texas as a top travel destination, thus benefiting local and state economies.
