Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the City of Pflugerville following its recognition as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This acknowledgment comes as part of the inaugural year for the program, emphasizing the city's dedication to using tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors both nationally and internationally.

Governor Abbott remarked, "Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas." He highlighted that "travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." He praised Pflugerville and Explore Pflugerville for earning this designation and encouraged other Texas communities to apply for the program.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell recognized Pflugerville's appeal, stating, "Pflugerville’s array of parks and family-friendly attractions make it a standout destination in Central Texas." He noted the presence of destinations like the 1849 Park and Typhoon Texas water park, emphasizing the city's efforts to offer enriching experiences for all visitors.

Senator Sarah Eckhardt expressed her excitement over Pflugerville’s new status, observing, “This recognition by Travel Texas is a testament to the outstanding work being done by leaders, partners, and neighbors.”

Representative Sheryl Cole recalled Pflugerville's transformation, saying, "Pflugerville, once a sleepy bedroom community, has evolved into a thriving boomtown." She congratulated the city for its achievement.

Pflugerville's Director of Communications and Marketing Roger Heaney voiced pride in the community's recognition, stating, "This certification reflects the dedication of our staff in making Pflugerville a welcoming place for visitors."

City Tourism Coordinator Karla Gryzmala highlighted the city's unique offerings, mentioning its "extensive network of scenic trails perfect for hiking, biking, and exploring nature," which contribute to its status as a must-visit destination.

The CEO of the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce, Kristen Cepak, added that "Pflugerville is known for its historic charm," noting the balance of outdoor adventure, family-friendly attractions, and community spirit that makes it appealing to tourists.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program welcomes local governments or non-profit entities leading tourism development to strengthen relationships, educate leaders, and prioritize strategies for community enhancement. Travel Texas, part of the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, aims to market Texas as a prime travel destination, bolstering local economies by attracting non-Texan visitors to the state.
