Governor Abbott appoints new members to pilot commissioners board

Governor Greg Abbott has made significant appointments to the Jefferson and Orange Counties Board of Pilot Commissioners. Brandy Bergeron, M.D. and Amy Townsend, M.D. have been appointed, while Shawn Sparrow has been reappointed. Their terms are scheduled to expire on August 22, 2025. Additionally, Craig Sherlock has been appointed, and Charles “Charlie” Holder has been reappointed for terms ending on August 22, 2026. This board supervises pilot services within its jurisdiction, which includes key maritime areas.

Brandy Bergeron, M.D., an anesthesiologist at Anesthesia Associates, holds leadership roles such as chief of staff and medical director for Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth. She has affiliations with organizations such as the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Her educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Amy Townsend, M.D., from Orange, operates Magnolia Direct Primary Care and holds significant standing in the Jefferson County Medical Society. She also engages in civic activities through the Rotary Club of Bridge City-Orangefield. Townsend's education includes a Biomedical Science degree from Texas A&M University and advanced training in family medicine at Louisiana State University – Lake Charles.

Shawn Sparrow serves as vice president of The Houseman Companies and director at First State Bank of Texas. He has served on boards like Main Street of Beaumont. His academic background includes a Business degree from Lamar University.

Craig Sherlock, from Beaumont, holds leadership positions at J.S. Edwards & Sherlock Insurance Agency and LaBelle General, LLC. His community involvement includes roles with the Three Rivers Council of Boy Scouts of America and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. Sherlock studied at Spring Hill College and Loyola Law School and is versed in insurance and suretyship.

Charles “Charlie” Holder, based in Beaumont, runs Home Instead Senior Care and Advantage Drug Testing. He has been active with the Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas and various community organizations. Holder's academic background includes studies in biology at Lamar University and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The appointments by Governor Abbott are pending confirmation by the Senate.
