Governor Abbott appoints three to Texas counseling board

Governor Greg Abbott has made three appointments to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Elisa Chan, James Brian Eby, and Corey Rose are selected to serve terms that will end on February 1, 2031. This Board holds responsibilities such as licensing, examination, and establishing rules for the field of professional counseling.

Elisa Chan from San Antonio is taking on this role while currently serving as president and co-founder of Unintech Consulting Engineers, Inc. Her previous service as District Nine council member on the San Antonio City Council spanned from 2009 to 2013. Additionally, she is involved with the American Council of Engineering Companies and the San Antonio Mobility Coalition. Chan's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Software Engineering from Beijing University of Technology and a Master of Science in Computer Science from UT San Antonio.

James Brian Eby of Wichita Falls brings experience from his role as an instructor for Entrust in Eastern Europe and Ecuador, as well as serving as adjunct faculty at the Evangelical Seminary of India. He holds licenses in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Social Work. His professional affiliations include membership in the National Board of Certified Counselors and board positions with YoungLife and the Texas Association of Community Centers. He is also board chairman for the Helen Farabee Centers and a former Advisory Committee member to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for Offenders with Medical and Mental Impairments. Eby's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Grace Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Corey Rose, based in Austin, serves as vice president of Global Investment & Innovation for Opportunity Austin. His public service career, focused on international affairs and economic development, spans over a decade at the state level. Rose is active on the International Committee Board for the Texas Association of Business and serves on the Ambassador Council for the Austin Technology Council. He also participates in the Global Mentorship Program at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin. Rose holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from UT Austin and a Master of Business Administration from UT Dallas.

The Governor's appointments are pending confirmation by the Senate.
