Governor Greg Abbott announced the appointments of Aida Coronado and Bobby Smith to the Texas Workforce Investment Council. Their terms will conclude on September 1, 2025. The Council is responsible for a comprehensive approach to workforce development across Texas, handling planning, evaluation, research, and other tasks for 19 workforce programs.
Aida Coronado, who resides in Brownsville, serves as the executive vice president and chief operations officer for DHR Health Brownsville. She is also a family nurse practitioner and holds leadership roles as the chairman of Advanced Practice Providers Process Improvement and the DHR Allied Health Committee, as well as serving on the DHR Medical Executive Committee. Her service record includes an honorable discharge from the United States Public Health Service. Coronado's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.
Bobby Smith is a resident of Buda and the business representative for United Association Local 286. His professional activities extend to teaching EPRI Industrial Rigging at Local 286. Smith is involved in labor council activities as a delegate for the Central Texas Labor Council and has been part of the Austin Construction Advisory Committee. His community engagement includes parish activities at Saint Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church and sponsorship in Outdoor Christian Ministries. Smith completed an apprenticeship in plumbing, pipefitting, and welding with the Joint Apprenticeship Committee at Local 286.
