YES Prep Public Schools recently hosted the 20th Annual Energy Texas Hold 'Em Tournament at Corinthian Houston. The event brought together over 600 leaders from the energy sector and raised $2.1 million to support YES Prep's students across 24 campuses. Since its start in 2006, the tournament has become a major fundraising event in Houston, raising over $24 million for educational opportunities.
This year's event was supported by more than 84 sponsors, including Vitol, Alta Resources, AmSpec, Colona Heavy Industries, First Horizon Bank, KiwiEnergy, OB Americas, Sidley Austin, Sinokor, and White & Case. Vitol sponsored the VIP Reception and matched employee donations on the night of the event with an additional $200,000.
"The energy industry fuels Houston’s economy, and investing in education ensures that future generations have the skills and opportunities to thrive," said Steve Mohtashami from the steering committee. The evening included various culinary offerings and concluded with Calvin Greer winning the tournament.
The success of this annual event is attributed to the efforts of the Steering Committee members: Aaron Byrd, Marisa Chavarria, Brian Colona, Michol Ecklund, Austin Elam, Jarrid Gunderson, Jeffrey Millstein, Steve Mohtashami and Bill Nelson.
YES Prep Public Schools serves over 19,000 students across Houston through a network of 24 campuses. The schools offer tuition-free education with rigorous academics and comprehensive student support services.
