Governor Greg Abbott has revealed a collaboration between the Texas Music Office (TMO) and Garland Cultural Arts to hold a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop. Scheduled for April 3, the workshop will be available in both in-person and virtual formats.

"Music is alive and well deep in the heart of Texas," said Governor Abbott. He expressed gratitude towards the Texas Music Office, emphasizing the office's role in fostering partnerships and job creation. With the TMO's support, Governor Abbott cited that the Texas music industry provides 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates an annual economic activity exceeding $31.7 billion. He highlighted the value of collaboration with local leaders, such as those in Garland, to equip Texas communities for success.

Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will be part of the workshop. She is set to discuss the Music Friendly Texas Community designation, its benefits, and address questions.

The Music Friendly Texas program, launched by TMO in 2016, is the nation's pioneering initiative. It aids Texas communities in developing their music industries and conveys their dedication to industry growth. The workshop in Garland marks the beginning of the certification process. Upon successful completion, Garland would join over 70 Texas cities with the Music Friendly Texas Community status.

The event is open to musicians, venues, and the general public. It will be held at the Plaza Theatre in Garland, Texas, and accessible online.

Questions about the workshop can be directed to Amy Rosenthal, Cultural Arts Director for the City of Garland, at (972) 205-2789 or via email at arosenthal@garlandtx.gov.
