Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant for the Double S Fire in Hutchinson County. This grant will enable Texas to receive 75 percent reimbursement from the federal government for expenses related to combating the fire.

"The State of Texas continues working around-the-clock to provide all necessary resources to local officials fighting the Double S Fire in Hutchinson County," stated Governor Abbott. "With FEMA’s approval of this Fire Management Assistance grant, our brave firefighters are better able to battle these blazes. Texans in affected areas are urged to heed the guidance of local officials and to take all necessary precautions to keep yourself, your family, and your loved ones safe. I thank our heroic firefighters and emergency personnel for their tireless efforts as they continue to protect their fellow Texans."

The state has deployed several resources under Governor Abbott's direction. These include personnel and equipment from various agencies such as the Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Division of Emergency Management, Texas National Guard, and others. They are engaged in wildfire response efforts across the region.

Texans can access wildfire resources via the Texas Disaster Portal at disaster.texas.gov and report any damage through TDEM’s online damage survey at damage.tdem.texas.gov by selecting “2025 Wildfire Incidents.” This information assists emergency management teams in assessing damages and connecting those affected with available resources.

Additionally, Governor Abbott is pursuing further actions such as requesting a disaster declaration from the U.S. Small Business Administration for other fires like Welder Fire and obtaining approvals for additional Fire Management Assistance Grants.
