Governor Greg Abbott has congratulated the City of Freeport for being designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This recognition comes in the inaugural year of the program, highlighting Freeport's commitment to tourism as an economic growth strategy, job creation, and attracting visitors.
"Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas," said Governor Abbott. "Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193.8 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. Every region of this great state offers endless opportunities to experience the natural beauty, rich history, and true Texas hospitality that draws visitors to our communities."
Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, noted Freeport's coastal heritage and recreational activities: "Visitors can experience deep-sea fishing excursions, explore the Freeport Historical Museum, or enjoy water sports on the Old Brazos River."
Senator Joan Huffman expressed her excitement over Freeport's new status: "As a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, the City of Freeport offers unique experiences that only a few places in the state can rival."
