Congressman Morgan Luttrell and Congressman Morgan McGarvey have introduced two bipartisan bills aimed at supporting veterans. The Veterans Compensation Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) Act and the Review Every Veteran's Claim Act were presented with a focus on improving financial security and claim processes for veterans.
Luttrell emphasized the importance of ensuring that veterans receive their earned benefits without facing bureaucratic challenges. He stated, "Our veterans have put everything on the line for our country, and it’s our duty to ensure they receive the benefits they’ve earned without unnecessary bureaucratic roadblocks." The COLA Act is designed to align veterans' benefits with inflation rates, similar to adjustments made for Social Security recipients.
McGarvey echoed these sentiments, highlighting his commitment to preventing barriers that hinder veterans from accessing their benefits. He remarked, "I’m proud to partner with Chairman Luttrell to support the Veterans COLA Act and the Review Every Veterans Claims Act to ensure veterans in Louisville and across the country receive the benefits they earned."
The Veterans Compensation Cost of Living Adjustment Act will take effect on December 1, 2025. It aims to provide financial relief by ensuring that veteran benefits increase in line with cost-of-living changes experienced by Social Security beneficiaries.
The Review Every Veteran's Claim Act seeks to address issues related to denied claims due solely to missed VA appointments. This bill mandates that existing evidence within a veteran’s claims file be considered before making a decision, potentially benefiting up to 2,000 veterans annually.
Both bills are part of ongoing efforts by Luttrell and McGarvey to hold systems accountable while supporting those who served in the military.
