The University of Houston hosted its annual Day of Remembrance on March 4 at the University Chapel in the A.D. Bruce Religion Center. This event is held to honor the lives of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the university who passed away in the previous year.
The ceremony included moments for reflection and remembrance with remarks, periods of silence, and candle-lighting as part of the program. Karl A. Hearne, President of Staff Council; Holley Love, President of Faculty Senate; Austin Craig, Vice President of the Student Government Association; and Agnes L. DeFranco from the UH Alumni Association each participated in lighting a candle to commemorate those lost. This act symbolized unity within the Cougar community during times of mourning.
The event concluded with 27 chimes resonating through the chapel as a tribute to UH’s founding year and served as a reminder of each individual's enduring impact on the university.
Names remembered during this year's ceremony are available for viewing along with a picture memorial on the 2025 UH Day of Remembrance Padlet.
