Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Cory Liu to the 250th Judicial District Court in Travis County. Liu's term is set to expire on December 31, 2026, or until a successor is elected and qualified.
Cory Liu, based in Austin, currently practices law at Butler Snow LLP. His previous experience includes clerking for Judge Andrew Oldham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Danny Boggs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He holds leadership roles as president of the Federalist Society’s Austin Lawyers Chapter and as a steering committee member for the Texas Review of Law and Politics. Additionally, Liu maintains an active pro bono practice.
Liu's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He was born and raised in Austin.
The appointment requires confirmation by the Senate.
