Expanse Electrical Co., a provider of high voltage infrastructure solutions, has been selected to deliver the transmission and distribution infrastructure for Fervo Energy's next-generation geothermal project. This initiative is noted as the world's largest in its category and marks a significant step forward in renewable energy technology.

Fervo Energy has developed a method to harness geothermal energy through advanced drilling techniques. The process involves pumping water into geothermal reservoirs where it is heated and cycled back to the surface to generate electricity. This project aims to provide reliable and scalable renewable energy.

Expanse will serve as the High Voltage EPC (Engineer, Procure, and Construct) for the critical infrastructure needed for this project. The infrastructure will transmit up to 400 megawatts of geothermal power via a 362kV system, connecting it to the regional grid.

Jerrit Coward, CEO of Expanse, said, "Our partnership with Fervo demonstrates the power of collaboration and innovation in achieving ambitious renewable energy goals." Tim Latimer, CEO and Co-Founder of Fervo Energy, added, "Expanse is one such partner, and we look forward to working together."

The project benefits from support under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), highlighting its importance in national renewable energy efforts. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025 with completion slated for June 2026.

Expanse's scope includes engineering three 69kV generation station substations, transmission lines interconnecting each station to a new switchyard, and approximately six miles of transmission lines connecting to the grid.

Mark Mitterlehner from Expanse expressed pride in contributing expertise towards Fervo's vision for a sustainable future.
