Eric Brown, a suspect in the sexual assault of a University of Houston student on February 7, was apprehended today at 3 p.m. near Texas Avenue and St. Emanuel Street in Houston. The arrest followed a tip from a civilian who recognized Brown while he was riding the METRORail.
"This morning, UH Police, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Crime Stoppers of Houston announced a $5,000 reward for his arrest," stated law enforcement officials. They also commended the efforts of regional law enforcement and the alert bystander who helped bring Brown into custody.
Authorities emphasized that despite this development, efforts to enhance campus security will continue. Measures include increased police presence, expanded security patrols, and strengthened partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.
"We encourage everyone to remain vigilant, stay aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity to UHPD at (713) 743-3333," officials advised as part of ongoing safety initiatives.
