The initiative aims to halt drug, weapon, and human smuggling into Texas and counter transnational criminal activities.
Operation Lone Star has resulted in over 531,300 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 50,800 criminal arrests, including over 43,500 felony charges. In addressing the fentanyl crisis, law enforcement seized over 624 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this mission.
The state reports a significant decrease in illegal crossings by over 90%, which correlates with fewer migrants needing transportation to sanctuary cities. Since its inception, Texas has transported thousands of migrants to various U.S. cities: Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles.
Governor Abbott met with U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan in Washington D.C. to discuss ongoing border security efforts supported by the Trump Administration. Governor Abbott recently issued executive orders for state agencies to back federal border security initiatives and authorized the deployment of tactical teams for support.

Recent highlights include DPS seizing 34 pounds of narcotics during a traffic stop in Webb County. The Texas National Guard seized a boat used for smuggling across the Rio Grande River near Shelby Park after spotting an attempted illegal crossing.
A drone team from the Texas National Guard deterred 12 migrants from crossing into Texas by identifying them via sUAS technology along the Rio Grande River. This technology serves as an enhancement for ground operations along the border.
In Roma, joint operations between Texas National Guard soldiers and U.S. Border Customs agents were conducted against illegal immigration activities. Command Sergeant Major Dale Williams stated that "Today's mission is to show...a show of force based on the Governor's orders," emphasizing his honor in participating in these historical efforts.
The collaboration between local forces and federal partners will continue as part of ongoing border security operations.
