Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz has successfully advanced two pieces of legislation aimed at supporting veterans. The first, H.R. 224, known as the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act, ensures that VA service-connected disability income is excluded from income calculations for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program assistance eligibility.
Additionally, De La Cruz co-led the passage of H.R. 965, the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act, alongside Congressman Brad Sherman. This legislation guarantees that veterans' disability benefits are not considered when determining eligibility for housing assistance under the HUD-VASH program.
"Far too often, veterans are met with unnecessary bureaucracy when they return home from service," stated Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz. "Though we can never repay them for their sacrifice, we can show our gratitude by ensuring bureaucratic obstacles do not block their access to housing support."
De La Cruz emphasized the importance of excluding disability payments from income calculations in critical housing programs like CDBG and HUD-VASH. She expressed pride in working across party lines to support veterans who have served the country.
