Congressman Dan Crenshaw has introduced a new piece of legislation titled the Preventing Unjust Red Flag Laws Act. This bill, also known as H.R. 223, seeks to prevent federal funding from being used to implement and enforce federal red flag laws. Additionally, it aims to stop the federal government from offering financial assistance to state, local, tribal, or territorial governments for enforcing these laws.

Red flag laws permit the temporary seizure of firearms if an individual is believed to pose a risk to themselves or others. Critics argue that these laws often lack proper due process protections. Congressman Crenshaw's proposed legislation emphasizes the importance of due process and Second Amendment rights, aiming to limit what he views as federal overreach into state-level firearm regulations.

The bill has been forwarded to the House Judiciary Committee for further consideration.
