A Pasadena man, Alex Daniel Guajardo, was sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 10 years in prison after admitting guilt to the murder of his pregnant wife, Caitlynne Rose Infinger Guajardo, and their unborn child. The incident occurred shortly after his release from jail for a previous assault on her.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg highlighted the case as a significant example of domestic violence dangers. "He is clearly a danger to everyone around him and this case, maybe more than any other case in the criminal courthouse, highlights the dangers and the red flags of domestic violence," Ogg stated. She noted that prior incidents included animal cruelty and physical abuse before the fatal attack.
Guajardo's wife had contacted police two days before her death, reporting that he had assaulted her. Despite being arrested and jailed, Guajardo was released on a personal recognizance bond. Within 17 hours of his release, he committed the murders at their home in Pasadena.
Following the crime, Guajardo was re-arrested by the Harris County Sheriff's Office and remained incarcerated. He was later found with homemade weapons while in jail and faced additional charges for possessing a deadly weapon within a penal institution.
In court, Guajardo accepted responsibility for two counts of murder and possession of a deadly weapon. His sentence includes concurrent life terms and an extra decade behind bars.
The victim's family expressed their disappointment with the justice system. Melanie Infinger, Caitlynne's mother, remarked: “Caitlynne did what she was supposed to do -- she had him arrested, and the justice system failed her.”
Assistant District Attorney Mary McFaden led the prosecution alongside ADA Lindsey Bondurant. McFaden commented on their efforts: “Although we can never bring back the victims, we worked to get justice for them, and hopefully this will help to bring some peace to their family.”
Guajardo’s sentencing aims to provide closure for those affected by these tragic events.
