As Election Day nears, Mayor John Whitmire is encouraging Houstonians to engage in their civic duty through VoteHouston.org. This nonpartisan initiative aims to equip the public with necessary information for informed decision-making at the polls.
"Elections matter, and the choices we make today will shape the future of our city," stated Mayor Whitmire. "Vote Houston is making it easier for residents to access essential information about the electoral process and understand the significance of their vote."
The program has been distributing educational materials via various channels, including City of Houston libraries, multi-service centers, water bill inserts, local newspapers, and digital platforms. These efforts are intended to promote informed civic participation.
Since August, Vote Houston has reached thousands of residents by providing resources in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese. The program has also collaborated with local organizations to enhance voter accessibility throughout the city.
One significant partnership is with METRO, which is offering free rides to polling stations. "METRO is proud to support Houstonians in exercising their right to vote by providing transportation to polling locations across the city," said Elizabeth Brock, METRO Chair. "Our goal is to eliminate transportation barriers and ensure that every Houstonian has the opportunity to make their voice heard."
With early voting starting soon, Mayor Whitmire urges residents to visit VoteHouston.org and download METRO’s app for voting information and free ride arrangements.
