Mayor John Whitmire has extended an invitation to the public for the annual "Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Celebration." The event, scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024, aims to honor the men, women, and families who have served in the military.
The ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. at City Hall located at 901 Bagby St., Houston. Vice Admiral James W. Crawford III, President of Texas Southern University, will deliver the keynote address.
The program includes a 21 Gun Salute and a Moment of Silence at 11:00 a.m., marking the signing of the WWI Armistice. Following this solemn tribute, the "Houston Salutes American Heroes Parade" will take place at 11:30 a.m.
Parking is available free of charge in the Theater District Tranquility Parking Garage through entrances #2 and #5.
Sponsors supporting this year's event include HCA Houston Healthcare, UTHealth Houston, EOG Resources, Inc., Grace After Fire, LyondellBasell, Panama-Texas Connection Foundation, McDonald's Houston, and Radio One Houston. The Mayor's Office of Special Events is organizing the celebration with proceeds benefitting Houston Civic Events, Inc.
