Governor Greg Abbott has extended his congratulations to the Texas restaurants recognized in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Texas. This guide features 15 one-MICHELIN-Star establishments and two MICHELIN Green Star eateries, among a total of 117 restaurants spanning 26 cuisine types across Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.
"Michelin’s recognition of Texas’ outstanding restaurants is a testament to the world-class talent found not only in the greater Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio areas but throughout our great state," stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that "the coveted MICHELIN Stars rankings will have a lasting impact on the Texas economy," attracting global travelers to experience Texas's diverse culinary offerings. He noted that the foodservice industry contributed over $100 billion in sales last year and is the state's largest private employer.
The official release of the MICHELIN Guide Texas took place at a ceremony hosted by Houston First with support from Travel Texas. The event was attended by First Lady Cecilia Abbott, where chefs and restaurant teams were honored on stage.
Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell remarked that "The MICHELIN Guide Texas offers a remarkable opportunity to share our state's culinary diversity and exceptional quality with the world." He added that it encourages travelers to explore "the distinct flavors and authentic dining experiences that define Texas."
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, commented on their findings: “Our anonymous Inspectors were impressed by the culinary community across the state of Texas.” The selection showcases uniquely Texan flavors like barbecue and Tex-Mex alongside international influences.
