Abbott appoints Rodriguez to State Pension Review Board

Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E., to the State Pension Review Board. Rodriguez will serve a term that extends until January 31, 2029. The Board's responsibilities include reviewing all public retirement systems in Texas for actuarial soundness and ensuring compliance with state law.

Rodriguez, who resides in McAllen, is retired from his role as city manager for the City of McAllen. He holds memberships in several professional organizations including the Texas City Managers Association (TCMA), the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the South Texas College Public Administration Advisory Council. Additionally, he is president of TCMA Region 10.

His previous experience includes serving as director of the Lower Rio Grande Water Committee and being a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas Municipal Retirement System Board of Trustees, where he was chairman twice between 2005 and 2018. Rodriguez also participates actively at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M – Kingsville and a Master of Public Administration from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
