Teach for America Houston has announced the recipients of the 2024 Virani Distinguished School Leader Award.
According to an October 10 press release, Kaleena Coleman, founding principal of KIPP Unity Primary, and Cynovia Hall, founding principal of YES Prep Airline Elementary, were recognized with the accolade in a special ceremony earlier this month.
Farid Virani, one of the award’s namesakes, said in the release that Coleman and Hall are champions in their schools and role models in the broader fight for equity in education. The award celebrates outstanding school leaders who have gone above and beyond in their pursuit of educational equity, fostering impactful changes across their schools and communities.
The honorees were surprised with a video showing messages of support and recognition. Teach For America Houston executive director Tiffany Cuellar Needham said in the release that the organization’s work is supported by the Viranis.
