The Brays Oaks Management District Business and Economic Development Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on September 04, 2024, at 10:00 am.
District Board and Committee members present: Sheri Cortez, Ralph Rieger, Sylvia Rivas, Jodi Hamilton, Cindy Chapman
Staff members present: Josh Hawes, Cosme Garcia, Natali Hurtado, Andrea Duhon Public present: Sylvester L. (Skip) Reeder III, Shavonnah Roberts Schreiber – SNR Creative, Cynthia Demery, Brenda Jackson, Carolina Gambrel – SNR Creative, Tabitha Israel – Upstanding Enterprises, Barbara Hite – District K
Committee Chair Sheri Cortez called the meeting to order at 10:02 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 11:02 AM.

2. Public Comment
a. No public comments were received.
3. Minutes of 8/07/24 B&ED Committee Meeting
a. Committee meeting minutes submitted for reference.
4. District Updates & Recommendations
a. Development Properties
i. Director of Services Garcia shared photos of Brays Oaks Crossing.
ii. Director Cortez gave an update on Starbucks and should open no later than the end of the year.
iii. Executive Director Hawes advised that he has spoken to District J regarding the Food Truck Park and that ordinances regulating food trucks may change.
iv. Director Rivas advised that construction on S. Braeswood between Fondren and S. Gessner is ongoing. Director Cortez asked staff to monitor the property.
v. Director Cortez requested staff make the committee aware of new developments in the district.
vi. Director Cortez advised that there’s a temporary barricade near the Valero at the Beltway and request staff work with DRT to determine if the barricade has the necessary permits.
b. Branding – SNR Creative
i. Ms. Schrieber inquired into some items needed from staff and national night out. Executive Director Hawes advised that the items will be provided and national night out is still in planning stages.
ii. Director Cortez advised that staff should have bags to give out to special guests.
c. Permits & Platting
1. Permits
a. Executive Director Hawes reviewed the permits. A detailed report is included in the committee packet.
b. Director Cortez discussed the possibility of adding compliance requirements for businesses to obtain a permit.
c. Executive Director Hawes advised that ordinances are in place, but enforcement is probably an issue.
2. Platting
a. Executive Director Hawes advised that the district has no new platting activity.
d. Business PIP
i. Director Cortez is working with Sgt. Juarez to plan a meeting.
e. Business Incentives Program
i. Director of Services Garcia advised that the district plans to recognize Harova Market.
f. METRO
i. Executive Director Hawes advised that he is working to schedule a meeting. Funds have been redirected to repair of streets and new sidewalks.
ii. Director Cortez asked staff to reach out to District J regarding the W. Bellfort Park and Ride to help the district get updates on its status.
g. Discuss Economic Development Initiatives
i. Executive Director Hawes advised that Lance Dean will be on next month to discuss a packet for next year.
