Yesenia Ramos-Silva, a teacher with Teach for America Houston (TFA), has been named the recipient of an award from the College Football Playoff Foundation’s (CFP) Extra Yard for Teachers.

According to a September 18 press release attributed to TFA, Ramos-Silva was selected for her leadership, dedication to student success, and contributions to building a brighter future for her community through education.

A ninth-grade biology teacher at YES Prep North Central who was a TFA Houston 2023 corps member, Ramos-Silva has received $250 each in recognition of her impact and commitment in the classroom, according to the release.

The CFP Foundation’s Britton Banowsky said in the release that the entity is happy to help support the expansion of recruitment of teachers, praising organizations such as TFA.

TFA Head of Development Maria Nuñez expressed gratitude for the CFP’s generosity. Nuñez said that the CFP’s support of educators across Texas aligns with TFA’s work to expand educational opportunities in the community for vulnerable students.

TFA Houston has been in existence since 1991. According to historical records, TFA Houston alumni have founded KIPP and YES Prep charter school networks in the 1990s, and the organization maintains a partnership with the Houston Independent School District (HISD), the largest public school district in Texas.

The CFP touts itself as the largest sports entity dedicated to supporting educators. It utilizes multiple partnerships to execute its initiatives and support positive educational outcomes.
